On September 24 and 25, 2026, the Mexican Banking Association brought together some of the leading players in the mortgage ecosystem in Mexico City for the 12th Housing Finance Symposium, held under the theme “Driving Housing Finance Forward, Building the Future”. The event brought together government authorities, housing organizations, commercial and development banks, developers, mortgage brokers, appraisers, notaries, and national and international experts.
Rather than focusing solely on interest rates or mortgage products, the event raised a much broader question:
How can we help more people access housing and financing solutions that can adapt to a changing society?
For Creditaria Internacional, this conversation is especially relevant. After 26 years of growth since the company was founded in Spain, our presence and projects in Mexico, Spain, Canada and the United States allow us to observe an increasingly evident trend: financing, real estate investment, and wealth building are no longer viewed exclusively through the lens of a single country’s borders.
Mexico has financing, but it also needs more housing
One of the key messages surrounding the Symposium was that the challenge in the Mexican market is not limited to credit.
Before the event, Gonzalo Palafox Rebollar, coordinator of the ABM’s Mortgage Credit Committee, explained that some families have a need and the purchasing power to buy, but cannot necessarily find suitable housing in the right location and at a price within their budget. Factors limiting production include the cost of land and materials, regulations, paperwork, and the availability of serviced land.
His estimate for the end of 2026 was between 115,000 and 120,000 mortgages, with lending of approximately 265 mil a 270 mil millones de pesos. These are projections, not final results, but they help illustrate the size and capacity of Mexico’s mortgage market.
The challenge, then, is not simply to provide more financing. It requires financing + housing + infrastructure + land + legal certainty + technology + guidance.
Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Data: Expanding the Mortgage Market
One of the most important messages for the future of our industry was the need to use technology to bring more people into the financial system.
The mortgage executives’ panel discussed how, after decades of building a strong and competitive mortgage banking market, the next step is to expand the target market by using technological advances, Artificial Intelligence, alternative data, and new financing models.
Other participants also highlighted the importance of moving toward fully digital mortgage processes, simplifying the customer experience, and building a more integrated ecosystem.
At Creditaria, this transformation is already part of how we approach our business.
At the Symposium, Creditaria shared how combining technology with guidance from financial advisors makes it possible to use prequalification tools that deliver results in seconds, complete and verified application files before they are sent to banks, and processes designed to reduce approval times.
Technology should not replace the advisor. It should allow them to spend less time on administrative processes and more time understanding the person behind the loan.
Housing finance is now an international conversation
Perhaps one of the most important aspects of the event for Creditaria Internacional was its global perspective.
The Symposium featured perspectives from organizations in Latin America, the United States, and Europe, with representatives from the Mortgage Bankers Association, the International Union for Housing Finance, the Inter-American Housing Union, and European organizations specializing in housing and finance.
One of the international panels focused on the geopolitics of housing, global trends, and regional strategies, examining shared challenges such as housing shortages, urban growth, land availability, and access to financing.
This confirms something we at Creditaria Internacional have been observing for some time:
Mortgage challenges are local, but many potential solutions can be global.
What works in Mexico can offer lessons for other markets. Experience in the United States can help transform processes in Latin America. European models can offer new perspectives, while Latin America can contribute solutions developed in markets with very different financial realities. Sharing this knowledge helps accelerate innovation.
The mortgage broker is evolving, too
For years, the primary value of a mortgage broker could be summed up as helping clients compare banks and find a loan.
Today, that is no longer enough. Tomorrow’s advisor will need to be able to interpret data, use technology, compile applications more accurately, understand different financial solutions and the real estate market, and guide clients through a wealth-building decision that can span decades.
The combination will become increasingly clear:
Technology to analyze.
Data to make decisions.
Institutions to provide financing.
Advisors to guide clients.
This combination can help the industry become both more efficient and more people-centered.
Building the future means bringing opportunities within reach
The 12th Housing Finance Symposium leaves an especially important message for everyone in this industry.
The future of the mortgage market will not be built by a single institution. It will be built by connecting banks, housing organizations, developers, technology, advisors, investors, and clients. It will be built by creating more housing, developing better financial solutions, digitizing processes, and finding new ways to assess people who are currently excluded from traditional models. And increasingly, it will also be built by connecting countries.
At Creditaria Internacional, we believe the next chapter of our industry is about breaking down those barriers: using our experience, network, technology, and knowledge of different markets to help more people turn their income into wealth, wherever they live.
Because financing a home has never been just about approving a loan.
It means helping someone turn a plan into wealth and an opportunity into a future.
And after 26 years working around the world, that remains the purpose that drives us to keep evolving.
